The Indian Premier League (IPL) is now the center of attention for cricket fans. This franchise T20 tournament was started in 2008 by BCCI, the governing body of cricket in India. Sixteen years have passed since then. The popularity of IPL has not declined at all. Rather, it has increased posterity.


IPL is going to enter seventeen in 2024. Ever since the World Cup (ICC World Cup 2023) ended in November last year, excitement has started to rise about the upcoming season. On November 26, all ten teams of the tournament released their release-retention lists. Then there was a glimpse of surprise.


The cricket crowd witnessed the thrilling change of team. After spending two years with Gujarat Titans (GT), Hardik Pandya returned to Mumbai Indians (MI) for a huge fee.


After Hardik's return to Mumbai, the interest in the IPL auction increased manifold. The auction event held at the Coca-Cola Arena in Dubai on December 19 did not disappoint the enthusiastic crowd. All previous records have been broken in this 'mini auction'. Australia's Pat Cummins received 20.50 crore.


Australia's Mitchell Starc set a record by getting the highest price. Kolkata Knight Riders took him to the team for 24.75 crore. Also, Indian youngsters like Sameer Rizvi, Kumar Kushagra getting big money have also increased the excitement about IPL this time.

Following the path shown by IPL, franchise cricket leagues have started in many countries of the cricket world. Like Caribbean Premier League (CPL), International T20 League (ILT20), Big Bash League.


Similarly, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka also have franchise T20 competitions in the subcontinent. As the popularity of T20 franchises around the world is increasing, the IPL franchises have decided to expand their reach with the times.


KKR was the first to venture outside India 


Shah Rukh Khan's Knight Riders (KKR) was the first to venture outside India. Besides Kolkata, they bought teams in Trinidad and Tobago in the CPL. Named Trinbago Knight Riders (TKR). Apart from IPL and CPL, the Red Chillies currently own Abu Dhabi (ADKR) and Los Angeles Knight Riders (LAKR).


Following the same path, the Delhi Capitals franchise has taken ownership of the Dubai Capitals (DC) of the ILT-20 and the Pretoria Capitals of the SA20 tournament in South Africa.


Sunrisers Eastern Cape play in the same South African league as Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH).


Mumbai Indians also have a team in SA20. They have also invested in IL T20 and Major League Cricket.


Joburg Super kings and Texas Super Kings are participating in the South Africa and USA leagues with investment from the popular IPL franchise Chennai Super Kings (CSK).


Lucknow Super Giants and Rajasthan Royals are not far behind. In the SA20 league they own Durban's Super Giants and Paarl Royals respectively.

What is this 'The Hundred'?


'The Hundred' is an upcoming T20 Franchise League. It is going to be held in England (UK).


The Indian Premier League (IPL) started its journey in 2008 by the hand of Lalit Modi. However, he was suspended by the BCCI shortly after the end of the 2010 IPL. Allegations of misbehavior, irregularities and financial embezzlement against Modi (Lalit Modi).

It is heard that Lalit Modi can step into the world of cricket again with England's own franchise league The Hundred. Former BCCI President and controversial owner of India Cements, Chennai Super Kings franchise N Srinivasan has also shown interest in investing in 'The Hundred'.


According to a report published in Money Control, not only Lalit Modi and N Srinivasan, several other IPL franchise owners are interested in investing in The Hundred.


In this tournament, not 120 balls like traditional T20, but hundred (100) balls in one innings. The number of teams in this tournament, which has been started since 2021, is currently 8. All eyes are on whether the number of teams entering the IPL franchises will increase or the ownership of the currently participating teams will change.
