ICC gave 'Demerit Points' to Mirpur's pitch

Bangladesh's strategy has been reversed. Bangladesh managed to win the series against New Zealand by making a wicked whirlwind wicket in Mirpur. However, New Zealand somehow taught Bangladesh everything by winning by 4 wickets on the paddy field. There is no end to shame. The Bangladesh cricket team has failed in the World Cup. Recently, Najmul Hossain Shanto and Taijul Islam had to accept a shameful defeat against New Zealand at the Sher-E-Bangla Stadium in Mirpur, known as the 'Home Venue'. And this time, the world cricket governing body ICC gave 'Demerit Points' to that Mirpur pitch as 'Unsatisfactory'.

That pitch strategy of Bangladesh is now at the court of ICC

In a statement on Tuesday, the ICC said that the pitch in Mirpur for the second Test against New Zealand was not satisfactory. ICC match referee David Boon discussed with the captains of both teams and submitted the pitch report to the ICC office. There he mentioned the negative thing about the pitch. In this context one demerit point is added as Mirpur venue. These demerit points will remain for five years. Mirpur will be banned from hosting international cricket for one year if it gets 6 demerit points within five years. Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is under extreme pressure due to ICC's decision.

What is said in David Boon's report?

David Boon said, 'The outfield was pretty good. There was no problem playing even after the rain. But the pitch was slightly under-prepared. The pitch was not tight at all. The first day was covered with grass clippings. The bounce of the ball was not consistent throughout the match from the first session. The pitch was breaking up in several cases when the ball landed. The ball from the spin bowlers was often going over the shoulders of the batsmen when playing on the front foot. Again the ball was falling too often.

The entire matter has been informed to the Bangladesh Cricket Board. They can challenge the decision of the ICC by applying within 14 days.

what happened?

It should be noted that recently Bangladesh played the second Test against New Zealand in Mirpur. Batting first, the Tigers collected 172 runs in the first innings. In reply, the New zealand were bowled out for 180 runs. Bangladesh scored only 144 runs in the second innings. In reply, the New zealand lost 6 wickets to score 139 runs. The Mirpur Test was over in three days. Even though it was played for four days, not a single ball-and-ball game was played on the second day due to rain. The center's pitch came up for discussion after it was completed in just three days in Mirpur. Mirpur's pitch is already called ' Paddy Field.' in cricket circles. Desperate to win against New Zealand, accusations of rigging arose on that pitch. 15 wickets fell on the first day on a whirlwind pitch. A total of 36 wickets fell in the entire match. The spinners of both the teams have taken 30 wickets in the entire Test. Among them, the Newzealand spinner Ajaz Patel took 9 wickets in two innings. Only 170 overs have been played. The match was decided in just 1069 balls. Match referee David Boon spoke to the captains and umpires of the two teams about the pitch after the game. After that send a report to ICC.

Tim Southee's terrible attack on Bangladesh in the Mirpur Test

After winning the match, New zealand captain Tim Southee did not stop criticizing Bangladesh's pitch. Said, 'This wicket can be explained in many ways. The fact that the match ended in just 170 overs is sufficient proof. The pitch was not good at all. The battle between bat and ball was not at all consistent. As many wickets as I have played in my entire career. This is probably the worst pitch ever. Again, the bowlers got the advantage in the bat-ball fight. The fact that the match ended in so few overs reflected that. But despite that, the way the boys have won is really admirable.'

Harsha Bhogle slammed Bangladesh

Tim Southee is not the only one who has single-handedly taken the spin-strategy of Bangladesh. After the tainted match, Harsha Bhogle slammed Bangladesh saying, 'Sometimes spiders get caught in their own webs.' Bangladesh could not play the game even by making spin bowlers. All strategies have boomeranged. Let's see if Bangladesh will stick to this strategy in the future.
